TAZ EXPLORERS

Welcome to 1st Tasburgh Nelson Explorer Scout Unit section!

Explorer Scouts are young people, aged between 14 and 18 years old. They make up the ‘fourth’ Section of the Scouting family. The 1st Tasburgh Nelson Explorer Scout Unit is linked to the local Tasburgh Scout Group.

We normally meet on alternate Thursdays during school term time between 8:00 and 9:30, usually at Tasburgh Village Hall, although this may change depending on the activity and as advised in advance.

We get to do some great things, many involving outdoor / water based activities and our aim is to educate and develop youngsters as they grow into young adults, as well as having fun and do thing that they might not otherwise get a chance to do, plus instil sound moral and scouting principles.

This personal development includes promoting the physical, intellectual, social and spiritual well-being of the individual, helping them achieve their full potential. In Scouting, we believe that young people develop most when they are ‘learning by doing,’ when they are given responsibility, work in teams, take acceptable risks and think for themselves.

Most activities are included in the term fees, however there are some activities throughout each year which are at extra cost (albeit very reasonable), typically weekend camps and occasional commercial based functions.

Explorers wear a basic Scout uniform comprising of Sea Scout shirt, group scarf, woggle, and dark blue combat trousers. These will need to be purchased from the scout shop once you get involved.

Once settled in, you will be ‘invested’ where you formerly get welcomed into the unit as an Explorer and become an member of the worldwide group of Scouts.

All adult leaders, helpers and executive committee do so entirely on a voluntary basis with many hours behind the scenes preparing and undertaking formal training as well as the actual meeting itself.
